Snack Like a Naturalist: Edible Plants & Foraging Basics

Friends of LLELA Summer Lecture Series

August 23 Saturday – 10 am to noon

Nature has a pantry—if you know what you’re looking for. In this lecture, we’ll share ideas for recipes, discuss the cultural history of local wild foods, explore how to forage ethically without leaving a trace, and (most importantly) how to identify native edible plants. Afterwards, you can join us on a short walk on the Blackjack Trail to observe local edible plants in their natural habitat, if weather allows. You’ll leave with plant ID know-how, a few recipe ideas, and the unshakable urge to yell “IT’S FORAGE O’CLOCK!” every time you see a patch of dewberries.

Register here — seating is limited.

<> 201 E. Jones St. Lewisville TX 75057 — Enter LLELA at the corner of Jones and Kealy. LLELA is not accessible via Fish Hatchery Road from Hwy 121. Map apps often get it wrong.
<> LLELA Education Building – Take first right after the gatehouse, park by the picnic tables, and go to the back left building.
<> Free with $5 admission per car to LLELA — credit card or Lewisville parks pass only

Presenter Addy France, CIG, is the Interpretive Ranger at LLELA Nature Preserve. Former California State Parks Interpretive Aide and LLELA Environmental Educator. Addy is dedicated to helping others see the wild world through curious, caring eyes.
