Trail Run: Camino De Los Muertos — November 1 Saturday
November 1 - November 2

Trail Run – Camino De Los Muertos
November 1 Saturday — Day of the Dead
Trail runners at the Camino De Los Muertos Trail Run experience shady, deep forests with wildlife, open prairies with wildflowers, and mysterious wetlands with exotic birds. All while running along the Elm Fork and over creeks on wide, well-marked trails, accompanied by bird song, cool breezes, and clean air.
All are welcome to participate, whether for the thrill of competing with other trail runners or simply to be enticed by fresh air and beautiful sights at a slower pace. All runners receive a super-soft custom race shirt (if you sign up by Oct. 3), a finisher’s medal, and other cool swag.

The incredible natural area now known as Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA)was originally wild and beautiful, full of an endless number of native species. When settlement began long ago, this area was farmed. Many years later, when the Lewisville Lake dam was completed, the area was condemned for flood control and all but abandoned. As the population grew, it became a forgotten island of green surrounded by suburbia. At the same time, nature slowly began to creep back in all on its own.
Now LLELA, the University of North Texas, and the City of Lewisville are working together to help bring back the wild by reclaiming it, protecting it, and making beautiful experiences possible for generations to come. As the partnership works daily to restore and replenish the native plant, tree, and animal life, they are bringing the natural environment back.

The trail run is brought to fruition by the preserve’s support group, Friends of LLELA . The nonprofit presents events and activities, organizes extensive volunteer efforts, and raises funds for LLELA restoration efforts. Become a member of Friends of LLELA for only $25. Join here.
