SUMMARY:Annual Mini-Sit Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:Annual Mini-sit Bird Count\nSaturday\, December 5\, 2026  6:00am-12:30pm \nLLELA 201 E. Jones Street\, Lewisville\, TX 75057 \n(Enter LLELA at the corner of Jones & Kealy; LLELA is not accessible via Fish Hatchery Road from Hwy 121.)\nParticipants will meet at the team’s pre-selected count circles. \nThe Friends of LLELA Mini Sit Fundraiser birding event will be held on December 5\, 2026 from 6:00AM to 12:30 PM. This event is less formal than a traditional “Big Sit” and welcomes all bird watchers\, from novices to pros at LLELA\, the 2600 acre wildlife refuge below the Lewisville dam\, where over 275 bird species have been observed. \nCreate your team\, from 3 to 6 birders\, select a team leader\, and record all observations during the event hours. During the sit\, at least one member from each team must be in their 20′ circle\, and only birds seen or heard from within the circle may be counted. We will celebrate with a picnic lunch at the Cicada Pavilion at 12:30pm and compare lists. Members of the winning team get bragging rights for the year. \nThe fee is $20 per person\, which includes entrance to LLELA and lunch. Please indicate your team leader’s name when you register. Funds raised from this year’s event will go toward interpretive signage for LLELA’s bird blinds. \nDetailed information about entry time\, gate location\, and supplies\, along with a map showing circle locations\, mapped by LLELA’s birders\, will be emailed to the team leader two weeks prior to the event. Teams can choose from circle locations on a first come\, first served basis. \nBring chairs\, spotting scopes/optics\, field guides\, snacks\, drinks\, and dress for the weather. This event will happen rain or shine\, and only be cancelled in case of severe weather. \nWe hope to welcome birders\, novice and pro alike for this event! \nThis counts as EFMN service hours.
