Create a beautiful roadside prairie at LLELA – donate at North Texas Giving Day!

Create an inviting roadside prairie at LLELA!

Give through North Texas Giving Day until Thursday, September 19

Imagine the main road at Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) flanked with native wildflowers. What a greeting!

With your North Texas Giving Day support, Friends of LLELA plans to turn the 1.5-mile expanse from the entrance to the Elm Fork into a linear prairie. Fifteen acres of beautiful year-long color will be a thrill to view!

HOW WE’LL DO IT

It’s a big task! Necessary modifications to the Lewisville Lake dam impacted this stretch of E. Jones St. Friends of LLELA must first control exotic plant species along the road and then prepare the soil for seeding. However, our crew has deep experience with other prairie restoration at LLELA.

Then, we’ll seed the roadsides with a diverse prairie seed mix containing a higher-than-normal amount of wildflower seeds. We’ll install healthy plants from LLELA’s native plant nursery throughout.

Your North Texas Giving Day donations will help purchase seeds and other essential materials needed to convert this grassy strip of land into a diverse prairie ecosystem. GIVE HERE.

WHY WE’LL DO IT

As aside from the beautiful color and pollinator support, birds and wildlife will benefit from the flower and seed production and find shelter in the more robust greenery. This project will be an excellent opportunity for visitors to see the abundant life possible in a relatively small strip of land. This conversion will be a model for future projects in surrounding communities, allowing people to see the beautiful benefits an easement or roadside prairie can have.

North Texas Giving Day from Communities Foundation of Texas on Thur. September 19 makes it simple and easy to give! MAKE YOUR GIFT ONLINE now through the early giving option.
