More info on the run —~— Register for the run
Trail runners at the LLELA Full Circle Trail Run experience shady, deep forests with wildlife, open prairies with wildflowers, and mysterious wetlands with exotic birds. All while running along the Elm Fork and over creeks on wide, well-marked trails, accompanied by bird song, cool breezes, and clean air.
All are welcome to participate, whether for the thrill of competing with other trail runners or simply to be enticed by fresh air and beautiful sights at a slower pace. All runners receive a super-soft custom race shirt and a finisher’s medal.
ENJOY THE FESTIVITIES
Spectators enjoy evaluating seasoned runners who pace the changing course quickly and watching the newer runners learn from the pros. The process required to stage such a large run is fascinating to observe. Snacks, beverages, and gear will be available.
Attendees will enjoy the Nature Partners area with non-profit groups associated with nature in North Texas. Volunteers from Friends of LLELA and Elm Fork Chapter Texas Master Naturalists https://txmn.org/elmfork will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about LLELA and its ecosystems.
Run staged by Perspective Pacing.
THE FULL CIRCLE REGENERATION OF LLELA
Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA, lee-lah) is a 2600-acre preserve as the base of the reservoir dam. Formerly ranched and farmed, the land was purchased by the federal government for the creation of Lewisville Lake, after which land below the dam was laid fallow and open only to a few. LLELA has now come full circle. Working closely with University of North Texas and the City of Lewisville, LLELA steadily grew in trail mileage, infrastructure, and activities.
Now LLELA boasts over 12 miles of trails for public use seven days a week, and is home to great outreach, from Toddler Time monthly nature fun to high-level ornithology studies by UNT students. Restoration efforts have brought health back to the Eastern Cross Timbers, and a mammoth effort is reclaiming acres of extremely rare Blackland Prairie from brushy encroachment. With support like UNT and Lewisville, plus its enthusiastic embrace by the public, its future looks bright, bringing the experience of nature to generations.
FRIENDS OF LLELA
The trail run is brought to fruition by the preserve’s support group, Friends of LLELA . The nonprofit presents events and activities, organizes extensive volunteers efforts, and raises funds for LLELA restoration efforts. Become a member of Friends of LLELA for only $25. Join here.
